LUNCH DETENTION POLICY

How do students earn lunch detention?

  • Students will earn one lunch detention for each class that is documented as a “cut” or unexcused absence.  Students documented with a “cut” will receive a zero for work due that day or test missed, unless made-up during their assigned lunch detention.
  • Students will earn one lunch detention for every three unexcused lateness’s to a class.  Students documented as late will receive a zero for any work that they missed unless made-up during their assigned lunch detention.
  • Students will earn one lunch detention for failing to attend a assigned teacher detention.

When a student is assigned lunch detention:

  • The automated Phone messenger will contact the parents or guardians of the student, notifying them that their child will serve lunch detention the following school day due to their offense. Students are asked to bring lunch on the day of their lunch detention.  If a student fails to bring a lunch a cafeteria lunch will be supplied to them.
  • Teachers are asked to supply missing work for the students to complete while serving their lunch detention.

What is expected of a student during lunch detention?

  • Students are expected to do schoolwork during the entire assigned session. All needed material (books, paper, pencil, etc.) should be brought to detention.
  • Students will not be permitted to go to their lockers, or to see another teacher once the detention session has started. Students should take care of these matters before arriving to the detention room.
  • There will be no whispering, talking, writing notes, or trying to communicate in any way with any other student.
  • No sleeping.
  • No cell phones, headphones, hats, or hoods.
  • No student will be allowed to leave early.
  • The teacher will dismiss the student when it is time to leave.

What happens if a student does not follow the above rules for detention or fails to report for assigned detention?

  • If the students does not show up for the assigned lunch detention period, misbehaves or refused to comply with detention rules, they will receive a zero on all assigned work, a referral and the Principal will take appropriate action.
  • Students are responsible for attending their lunch detention on the day that is scheduled. It is the student's responsibility to see an administrator to inquire about a lunch detention change if there is an emergency or a legitimate reason that warrants a detention change.

What if a student is absent from school the day of his or her assigned lunch detention day?

  • The student will serve lunch detention on their next present day of school.

TEACHER DETENTION

Students may be assigned detention by a teacher. Teacher detentions are to be served with the teacher at an agreed upon time. Failure to attend a teacher detention can result in lunch detention and/or in-school suspension.

SAVE ROOM

The save room provides a safe place for students who have been removed from class or who have been sent to the main office by a staff member. Upon removal, teachers should call ‘2120’ to let the save room aide know that a student is on their way. Upon arrival, the save room aide will contact parents/guardian of the student, who will then explain why they have been removed from class.  This student will spend their time in the save room completing the assignments from the class they were removed from. If a student fails to make it to the save room they will be scheduled for a lunch detention the following day.  If A student is sent to the save room at least three times in a week they will be scheduled for a lunch detention.
