College Readiness


Students at UNHS also receive extensive support and guidance through a college readiness program that not only leads them to choosing the best college for them, but also helps them develop the skills needed to be successful in the college that they choose.



Juniors and seniors are enrolled in the College Summit Program, where they create a digital college portfolio that includes applications to CUNY, SUNY, and private colleges; FAFSA applications; Scholarship information and applications; college essays; recommendations; etc. The program culminates in an annual meeting at Yale University.

Juniors and seniors are given the opportunity to take College Now courses at Baruch College and the UNHS campus, where they are taught by Baruch college professors.

Students can take Advanced Placement classes in English, Spanish, Chinese, World History, and Calculus.

Students in all grades, and their parents, are invited to participate in college trips within and outside of New York City.

UNHS holds an annual College Fair, where over fifty colleges and universities present their programs and recruit our students.

On our school’s latest progress report, we received an “A” on the College Readiness section and were in the 98 percentile among our peer index schools.

Freshmen begin preparing for college by meeting weekly with college advisors during advisory class, where they explore career paths and learn about the academic expectations they will need to meet to be college-ready.
